TALK AUDIO - BlackAir II 10" Review

Review written by 'Woosey'

Well first off here is the box we made for it, a transmission line box for around 30hz. It took around 4 hours to make and i have got progress photos for the box should you want to see them!.

Comments on the sub before it got powered up.

The sub looks to be well constructed, with some nice touches, like the terminals for example, a very solid contact can be achieved using them, and i was pleased to see an allen key in with the sub! The rubber boot on the magnet was something that i personally would remove as i think the vibe has a nice bottom!

The red dot on the cone was a bit confusing? whats is it for? we decided it must be a wang dot?

Overall subs in the lower price range has really bucked up in quality, ive got a sub i bought for £50 a few years ago (shark FWIW!) and the build quality in comparison is non existent. definitely a good thing to be seeing!

Once powered up

This sub took on a life of its own. The rated xmax figure is 7.5mm, which is FAR from the truth, we gave this little sub some abuse and still didn't hit the back plate once, or hear any noises that shouldn't be there and it gave an impressive performance on tracks with low bass, it never failed to hit even the lowest of notes, which subs can often struggle with (most sealed subs for instance!)

It does take a little it of power to get it going, but this could be down to the drop in efficiency that the Transmission line box will cause, but it definitely didn't struggle at any points.

Only real down point is that it was a bit "boomy" however the crossover point was a fixed 80hz so that might have had something to do with it.
